Watersports & Sports

Water skiing.

Snorkelling Trips

Hemingways offers tennis and golf.

Windsurfing and Kayaks

For water loving enthusiasts, Watamu is very well equipped, with windsurfing, sailing, pedaloes, kayaks, canoes, snorkelling and diving all easily accessed from Hemingways beach front. We only have kayaks here - wind surfing, pedaloes, hobie cats and canoes are all available at the next door Water Sports Centre.

Pedaloes, sailing boats, kayaks and canoes, are great for exploring the inner areas of the bay and enjoying the crystal clear warm water.

Hobbie-Cats and windsurfers are available to hire for the most energetic visitors and tuition is available for kids and adults.

Golf

Our nearest golf course is a simple, 9 hole course in Malindi; a 20 minute drive from the hotel. Whilst a good, enjoyable experience, do not expect a championship facility, quite often the greens would be called a fairway at home; the fairways the rough and the rough, well, a jungle!

If you would like a more serious game, then the Nyali golf course in Mombasa is rated highly and a daytrip to include a morning of golf and perhaps some sightseeing around the Mombasa Old Town and Fort Jesus can be arranged for you.

Golf Clubs are available for rent in both locations. We do suggest that you bring your own golf shoes.

Tennis

Hemingways a floodlit tennis court on property. We provide all equipment needed although if you are a true tennis fanatic you may prefer to bring your own racquet. We do also have a coach available for lessons or just a good game.

Horseriding

There are two riding stables in the Watamu area, one at Mida Creek and the other near the Sokoke Forest. Both cater for both beginners and experienced riders. Both provide their own tack, helmets etc. Hemingways staff will be happy to arrange a suitable event tailored to your equine skill and adeventurous nature.

The local stables offer training for novices and rides through the local “shambas”, as well as treks through pathways in the mangrove forests along the edge of Mida Creek. Longer riding safaris on the beach can also be arranged with a little notice. Rides are along tracks through the local villages and a little further afield through the Forest margins are very enjoyable both for the novice and experienced horse riders.
