The Arabuko-Sokoke Forest is East Africa's largest surviving, dry coastal forest, situated only 7 km inland from Watamu and 18 km southwest from Malindi on the Kenya Coast.

Mida Creek
Mida Creek is a large tidal inlet extending over 32 square kilometres. The tidal entry is at Temple Point at the southern end of Watamu and the main channel goes inland for about 6 kms.

Gede Ruins
This is probably the best known historic site on the Coast, with the exception of Fort Jesus. Located just a half a kilometre from Gede village and easily accessible by foot from the matatu “stage” at Gede, the Ruins are well worth a visit.

Kipepeo Butterfly Farm
Kipepeo has a large visitors' centre where the many spectacular local butterflies can be seen. The project enables the communities bordering the forest reserve to rear caterpillars to pupae which Kipepeo purchases for export to overseas buyers.

Bio-Ken Snake Farm
Bio-ken is a local research centre which deals in reptiles especially snakes and snake bites. Located less than five minutes drive from Hemingways this makes an interesting and educational visit as well making an important contribution to this important local service.
