Friends of Kenya

The Friends of Kenya Competition has just finished and what a fantastic end to the season.

For those who do not know, the Friends of Kenya is an endurance test for the true billfish angler.  Starting out at 6am on Tuesday morning, the boats fish all day, all night and all day on again before returning to port at 4pm on Wednesday.

We had 15 boats entered in the competition and a superb total of fish were caught; 19 Broadbill overnight; 8 Blue Marlin, 16 Striped Marlin; 2 Black Marlin - one of which was caught on fly! - and 7 Sailfish.

The winners were Andy Thomas, Russell Brumley and Nic Michalides fishing on WHITE MISCHIEF with 1 Blue, 4 Stripeys & 2 Broadbill.  They were closely followed by Gai Cullen & Richard Baudry on SEASTORM with a single Black Marlin caught on fly and worth triple points.  Third place was BLACK WIDOW, fished by Dicky Evans, Adam Lenga and Adam Ogden with 2 Blues, 4 Broadbill and 2 Sail.

A very special mention also for Callum Looman on Tarka who has succeeded in being the first skipper running from this area to get over 100 Striped Marlin in a single season.  Congratulations Callum.
